PATD15 ~ Garibaldi Shirt, Skirt & Belt Doll Pattern
Garibaldi Shirt is a loose blouse worn by women and children in the mid-19th century, made in imitation of the red shirts worn by the soldiers of the Italian patriot hero Giuseppe Garibaldi. Garibaldi's total sincerity and exceptional physical courage gave him the kind of personal magnetism which made women of all classes love him, and men of all classes follow him in circumstances of acute danger. The fashion for the Garibaldi shirt was initiated by Empress Eugenie of France and it was extremely popular during the first half of the 1860s. Versions in white and lighter fabrics also appeared, and children frequently wore it. This is considered to be the direct ancestor of the modern women blouse.
